Love locks started to appear on the Weir Bridge at Bakewell in 2012 and were the first to appear in Derbyshire, presently there are 40000 now attached to the bridge.
In 2021 the love locks were in danger of being sold as scrap and melted down, a campaign was started to help save them, read on and the story of how we saved them will unravel.
Derbyshire County Council are to start repair work on the love lock bridge on 16th September 2024 and will be removing the padlocks. They are going to configure the bridge so no more padlocks can be attached. We have found a new home for them at Thornbridge Hall and all the locks will be moved to Thornbridge in the near future.

Bakewell Love Lock Bridge
The love lock bridge in all its glory, showing off the 40000 love locks which are attached to the bridge.
The love locks have to be removed and we are working closely with Derbyshire County Council to rehome them at Thornbridge Hall.
A new structure will be erected in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall and the locks removed in order, bay by bay and wire by wire and reinstated at Thornbridge in the same order.
However we need help to achieve this, volunteers are required and donations are much needed.
