Bakewell love locks started to appear on the Weir Bridge in 2012 and were the first to appear in Derbyshire with an estimated 40000 locks attached to the bridge by 2024.
In 2021 the love locks were in danger of being sold as scrap and melted down, a Facebook campaign group was created to help save, this was named 'Save the Love Locks Campaign at Bakewell', read on and the story of how we saved them will unravel.
Derbyshire County Council started repair work on the bridge on 16th September 2024 which has now been completed and the bridge so designed so that no more padlocks can be attached.
All the locks were safely removed on 25th September 2024 and by 14th February 2025 they were reinstated onto a new structure, aptly named The Love Locker.
